Roof Products & Systems (RPS) has always been known as the Roof Curb Specialist so it is no surprise that when the Trane Company needed a roof curb for a monumental-sized rooftop unit they turned to RPS.  The rooftop unit was so large (roughly 40 feet wide x 92 feet long) that it had to be built, transported, and lifted in sections.  RPS had to design the roof curb system to not only fit the exterior dimensions of the rooftop unit but all internal structural systems had to be built to seismic standards while avoiding the ductwork passages and still providing structural support at all of the necessary points for the individual rooftop unit sections.  Further complicating the curb design was the requirement that it be manufactured for final assembly in the field due to its oversize dimensions.  RPS engineered splice systems allowed for simple bolt-together assembly which greatly eased field installation.  Finally, RPS had to have all of the design and manufacturing complete ahead of the rooftop units so the erectors could assemble the curb prior to delivery of the first rooftop unit section.  RPS, which pioneered rapid manufacturing of roof curbs in only 2 to 5 days, completed this curb with time to spare- so much extra time that the roofing contractor was able to hang the curb flashings before any of the rooftop unit was in place!
